Barcelona agree Neymar deal

Barcelona reportedly have a deal in place that will see Brazilian sensation Neymar arrive at the Nou Camp from Santos next summer.

Neymar is regarded as one of the finest young talents to have emerged from Brazilian football in a number of years, and has already been lauded by Pele as the best player in the world.
The 20-year-old is surely destined for greatness and, it would seem, will be provided the opportunity to prove himself in European football with a move to Barcelona.
Neymar has instead that he will remain loyal to Santos until his contract expires in 2014 but, according to Spanish publicationSport, the young forward is likely to join Barcelona next year.
Barcelona president Sandro Rossell is reported to have already negotiated a deal with Santos which means the Brazilian club would be liable to to pay a fine of €40 million were Neymar sold to another club.
Free-spending Paris Saint-Germain reportedly enquired about the availability of Neymar during the summer, but Barca are confident of capturing the player next year.

The captain will maintain a conservative recovery plan, but he will join his team-mates for tomorrow’s training session. His recovery will mark his availability for the return leg of the Spanish Supercup against Madrid on Wednesday.

Messi equals César as FC Barcelona's all-time goalscorer against Real Madrid

The Argentine's goal, his 14th against arch rival Real Madrid, allows him to equal César's record as Barça's all-time scorer against Los Blancos

Leo Messi keeps on breaking records. This Thursday he became the all-time highest FC Barcelona goalscorer in Clásicos, level with César, with 14 goals. The Argentine genius made sure to nail his penalty shot after Ramos brought down Iniesta in the box. His goal gave FC Barcelona the lead.

Di Stéfano, 18 goals

The all-time record holder, however, is the Argentine Alfredo Di Stéfano. The once Real Madrid player scored a total of 18 goals in La Liga Clásicos.

Leo Messi is also the only player to score in four consecutive Spanish Super Cup matches. In past editions of the tournament, Leo scored against Athletic Club and Sevilla.

La Liga, Team of the week: 4 Barça player

Messi: "It's important to start off winning"

The Argentine forward said that his main objective is to "fight for all of the titles" because the players "are as confident as ever" and that he wants to "keep on winning important titles for the Club"

On Barça's next match, against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup, the forward believes that it is "a complicated match" because Madrid are a side "with a lot of experience"

The man of the match in Tito Vilanova’s debut in official competitive play was Leo Messi. After the match against Real Sociedad, the Argentine talked with Barça TV’s ‘El Marcador.’ Messi, who scored a brace this evening, said that despite having a new manager that the team “continues to play with the same philosophy. We’re playing with the same style of play.” On the match and the three points won, Messi believes that “it’s important to start off winning,” seeing that Tito Vilanova wants “to fight for all of the titles.” He added, “we’re a team that wants to keep on winning important titles for the Club,” he also noted that he’s as eager as ever to achieve success: “I want to win it all, like Tito. It will be difficult, but we’ll try.”

Real Madrid looming

This Thursday, Barça will play the away led of the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid. “It will be a complicated match because they are an experienced rival,” warned Messi. The Argentine believes that the key to winning is “for all the players to actively participate so that we can score goal.” Barça’s playmaker and goalscorer is confident that his team-mates are completely dedicated to the cause because “we’ve been playing together for a long time” and in training “we practice what we want to do in games.”

The Azulgrana personally aspires to help the team throughout the entire year, just as he did in the pre-season: “I felt great, it’s been a while since I’ve had a complete pre-season.”

Tello, Alexis and Cesc

Messi only had words of praise for this team-mates. On Tello, he explained that “we know each other and I know what qualities he has.” The Argentine also praised Cesc, who he admires because “it wasn’t hard for him to adapt to Barça’s philosophy.” Messi also said that Alexis has the entire year to adapt to the team’s style of play, and that “last year he had a bit of bad luck” while noting that this year he’ll score a lot of goals.

Barcelona vs Real Sociedad 5-1

FC Barcelona - Real Sociedad: Dream start (5-1)

Puyol opened the scoring with a header after just three minutes

The Basques drew level six minutes later through Chory Castro

Barça hit back with two goals from Leo Messi to make it 3-1 within the first 15 minutes

Pedro and the returning Villa rounded off the scoring with goals at the end of each half

Tito Vilanova made a great start to his time in charge of the team after Pep Guardiola’s departure with an emphatic 5-1 defeat of Real Sociedad with Puyol, Messi (2), Pedro and Villa – back from injury- scoring the goals. It was a dream start to the season for Barça who made their intentions clear from the off - now bring on the Gamper and Madrid in the Super Cup!
Electric start
After just three minutes of the new season kicking off at the Nou Camp, Barça were one up when Puyol headed home a Xavi corner. Real then put in their best period of the game and almost immediately Illarremendi nearly equalised before he set up Chory Castro who made no mistake – two goals within 9 minutes.
Messi brace
There was no time to reflect on that equaliser though - as two minutes later Leo Messi found a space amongst the Real defenders to open his league account – which he then doubled, putting away a Tello cross to make it 3-1 after just 15 minutes. Both Tello and Pedro were creating danger down the flanks and causing all sorts of problems for the Real defence and just before the break, the two combined just to make it four as the Spanish international put away another cross from the youngster from deep. It really couldn’t have got any better from the Barça attack in the first 45 minutes.
Villa back in style
With Piqué on for Puyol at the start of the second half, Real came close to a second, but Messi was constantly threatening and looking likely to score. Iniesta came on for Cesc and David Villa received a tremendous ovation as he warmed up on the sidelines.
With fifteen minutes left, Tito sent Villa on and in a fairy tale ending he combined wonderfully with Alba to fire home for Barça’s fifth and confirm the promising sensations at the Camp Nou tonight.

Tivo Vilanova: "The team is playing at a good level"

The Barça manager is satisfied with the work his players have put in during the pre-season: "We’ve had a group of players that have trained for two solid weeks. Others haven’t had that much time to prepare”

“I wanted them to have more playing time, but the condition of the pitch ruined my plans,” said Vilanova

Tito Vilanova is optimistic after FC Barcelona’s five pre-season matches: “the team is playing at a good level ahead of the start of the Liga. We’ve had a group of players that have trained for two solid weeks. Others haven’t had that much time to prepare.” The manager noted that the second group of footballers, the internationals, needed to get more playing time this Saturday: “I wanted them to have more playing time, but the condition of the pitch ruined my plans.”

“The players are at a good level,” said Vilanova, who also noted that he doesn’t want to think about possible line-ups for the Real Sociedad clash until later this week: “when the players come back from international duty we’ll make a decision on who will play in the Liga based on how they’re feeling.” When asked about the players called up to the Spain squad, the manager was clear: “Del Bosque picks the players that he wants and we don’t have anything to say on the matter. This time six players are leaving, but if he had wanted ten, they would have gone too. It’s his responsibility to pick the best players for the national team.”

Lastly, on Puyol, the manager said that “he a very small injury, he’ll be ready to play soon.” Vilanova also noted that the decision to sub Sergio Roberto out in the second half was made before the match.

Welcome back, David Villa!

The Spanish forward made his return to competitive football after nearly eight months on the sidelines due to the injury he picked up in the Club World Cup semi-final against Al-Sadd

Tito Vilanova subbed Sergi Roberto out for Villa on 73 minutes in FC Barcelona's match against Dinamo Bucharest

‘El Guaje’ made his eagerly-anticipated return to the football pitch. Tito Vilanova subbed off Sergi Roberto and sent the forward in on 73 minutes. The striker enjoyed a little over 15 minutes of playing time after being sidelined for nearly eight months due to injury.

After the match, the Azulgrana manager stated that “I spoke with the doctors and the physios and Villa was ready to play for at least 15 minutes. It’s very important for us to recover players, especially if they’re well-loved like Villa.”

Furthermore, the manager highlighted Villa’s role as vital to Barça’s strategy on the pitch. “Last year we missed him because he’s a player that guarantees goals. He’s very necessary,” said Vilanova

Eight months of work to get to this point

David Villa fractured the tibia in his left leg in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup, which was played in Japan in December. El Guaje missed the second part of the season as well as the Euro.

The first bit of good news for the forward came on July 31st, when he was given the medical green light to play. Since then, he’s increased his work rate in order to be match fit and this Saturday against Dinamo Bucharest he made his return to competitive football. Therefore, Tito Vilanova will be able to count on the Azulgrana goalscorer for the 2012/2013 season.

Fontàs makes his return to competitive football

After getting the medical all-clear this Tuesday, the Azulgrana center back played most of the second half against Dinamo Bucharest

Andreu Fontàs has completely recovered from his right-knee ligament injury. The Azulgrana defender returned to competitive football in FC Barcelona’s last pre-season match of the summer, against Dinamo Bucharest. Fontàs played the better part of the second half against the Romanian team as he made his way onto the field, with the number 24 on his back, on the 62nd minute for Marc Bartra

He was only on the pitch for 30 minutes but it was evident that he’s match fit as he intercepted numerous passes from the Romanian players.

“I felt comfortable”

After the match, Fontàs explained that he “felt comfortable on the pitch because I’ve been training for nearly a month with the team and I haven’t had any problems.” The Azulgrana center back also noted that tonight’s match served “gain some confidence” and that “it was a bit difficult because the pitch wasn’t in the best condition.”

Completely healed

Fontàs, who has trained with the team all summer, was given the medical all-clear this Tuesday after being sidelined for seven months. On January 12 at the Reyno de Navarra, the Catalan tore the ACL in his right knee.
